Since opening its doors in 1931, John Marshall High School has become an LA landmark. Today, it's home to over 1,900 students from neighborhoods across 35 zip codes.

A Title 1 school, 72% of Marshall students fall below the poverty income level and boasts a graduation rate of 94% - with 67% meeting UC entrance requirements. Beloved as an iconic film and television school with gothic architecture, Marshall is filled with so many robust learning communities.

A BRIGHT LIGHT FOR MARSHALL

Marshall is also a sport-oriented school with over 500 athletes who train and compete across 16 sports - fostering a sense of belonging, responsibility, and school spirit.

Over time, Marshall's athletic field has severely deteriorated. That's why in October 2023, LAUSD approved a nearly $6 million dollar project to replace the field's turf and track using funds specifically dedicated to making major critical repairs. Construction starts in 2025 and will take about 12-15 months to complete.

With all of this in motion, LAUSD and the community has renewed its call to bring stadium lights to Marshall.

The cost is estimated at $2.6 million. Unlike repairing the field, LAUSD can't pay for stadium lights outright because there are no eligible funding sources.

Fortunately, LAUSD leadership has already pledged $1.75 million in discretionary funds to get the job done.

Marshall will require raising nearly a million from a combination of City and local grants, corporate and private investment, and major donations.
