Equity, wellness, community through strong, neighborhood public schools.

Let’s work together

The City of Los Angeles Board of Education is the governing body of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Members, who are elected to serve, convene at Regular Board Meetings to vote on District issues from funding to green projects and special resolutions. Much of the background work happens in committees, where more in-depth discussions can take place.

Dr. Rivas serves on four committees: Greening Schools & Climate Resilience (Committee Chair), Charter Schools (Committee Chair), Safety and School Climate, and Special Education. Members of the public are welcome to participate in all Board of Education meetings and may attend in person or online. Public comment for all board meetings opens 24 hours before the scheduled meeting and can be done in person or by phone. Dr. Rivas’s committees are listed on our events page and also on the LAUSD Board of Education calendar.

The Safety and School Climate Committee focuses on physical safety as well as the social-emotional wellness of our students. Topics covered include positive behavior interventions and restorative justice. McKenna III, and an array of parents, students, professors and researchers to promote and assess policies, practices and resources needed to support students with special needs, in inclusive environments as well as at specialized schools that cater to students with disabilities, such as Perez Career and Transition Center, where she maintains a regional office.
